Nigeria midfielder, Alex Iwobi produced yet another top class performance for his club side, Everton as they held on to defeat Premier League leaders, Arsenal by a lone goal on Saturday.
The early kickoff of Match week 22 was expected to go as easy one for Arsenal who are on 13 games unbeaten and against the Toffees who are coming to the game on the back of eight games winless run.
New Everton manager, Sean Dyche highlighted hard work and physicality as the ingredients to sustain Evertonās omnipresence in the Premier League.
His starting eleven epitomised those traits, giving the home fans something to cheer as they frustrated high-flying Arsenal early on.
Dyche retained believe in Iwobi as the previous managers of the Toffees with the starting line up and the Super Eagles’ schemer did not fail to deliver.
Iwobi who operated from right side of midfield created much problems for the Gunners for most parts of the match with his dribbles and deliveries.
One of his sleek runs resulted to a corner for Everton which two of former players under Dyche at Burnley made good use of to combine and score in the second half.
Dwight McNeil delivered the corner which James Tarkowski out muscled his markers to head past Aaron Ramsdale in goal for the Gunners.
The 26 year old Iwobi helped Everton to ward off series of attacks from his former club to account for Arsenal’a first defeat since September and their second of the season.
It was also Everton’s third successive home win against Arsenal for the first time since 1978, a big win that has pushed them out of relegation.
