Alex Iwobi’s Everton escape Premier League relegation

Everton came into the final day with their fate in their hands and Alex Iwobi played his part to ensure the Toffees stay in the Premier League for another season following a 1-0 win over Bournemouth on Sunday.
The Nigeria international was in action for 90 minutes but it was Abdoulaye Doucoure who scored the most important goal of his career and possibly Everton’s history to save the side from relegation with a final day triumph.
The Evertonians have brushed with relegation on other occasions, managing to avoid final-day drama last season with a win in their penultimate game.
This was the third time that Everton achieved a so-called Great Escape on the final day of a Premier League season, having also saved their skin in 1994 and 1998.
With next season now being their 70th consecutive season in the top flight, Everton has the second-longest ever run by an English side behind Arsenal who are on 98 consecutive runs.
