Nigeria former goalkeeper, Andrew Aikhoumogbe has thrown his weight behind Adebayo Adeleye to keep his place between the sticks when the Super Eagles face Sao Tome and Principe in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Adeleye stood in goal for Nigeria when they defeated Sierra Leone 3-2 for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers in Monrovia.
Despite conceding twice, the former international was impressed with Adeleye composure on his debut as he urges the technical crew to hand over the starting shirt to the goalkeeper.
“I feel impressed with he way he composes himself despite the fact that he was making his debut,” Aikhoumogbe told Complete Sports.
“His aerial ability is another aspect I liked about him and I think he should be giving another opportunity against Sao Tome. Adeleye will give the likes of Uzoho, Okoye and others a run for their money in the team.”
After sealing a spot at the next AFCON in Ivory Coast, the Super Eagles will face Sao Tome and Principe on September four.
