Anthony Ujah Relishes Return to Bundesliga Amidst Departure from China

Super Eagles striker Anthony Ujah expresses his delight at bidding farewell to China and embracing a return to the Bundesliga as he joins Mainz. The 27-year-old forward recently sealed the move from Liaoning Hongyun, culminating in a reunion with Mainz, a club he previously played for during the 2011/2012 season, a period in which he faced challenges, scoring just two goals in 12 games.
Reflecting on his brief stint in China, Ujah emphasizes the difficulties posed by extensive travel distances, with away games requiring three to four hours of flight time. In an interview with bild.de, he reveals the logistical challenges of reaching match venues, at times necessitating arrival two days before the game. Ujah notes, “Private jets could not do much to help out.”
Expressing his longing for the Bundesliga, Ujah shares, “I missed the fans in the stadium, the love, and hunger for Bundesliga football was bigger!” This sentiment aligns with his eagerness to reimmerse himself in the vibrant atmosphere of Bundesliga stadiums.
In an interview with Mainz’s official website, Ujah highlights the positive impact of being able to communicate effortlessly with his teammates without the need for a translator. He anticipates a smoother integration on and off the pitch, emphasizing that the return to the Bundesliga marks the ideal moment in his career.
Having previously showcased his skills with Cologne and Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, Ujah’s return to Mainz symbolizes a strategic move in his football journey, rekindling the spirit and passion he associates with German football.
