Arsenal’s Iwobi Gears Up for World Cup Debut with Confidence

Nigeria’s promising winger, Alex Iwobi, is embracing the transformative power of training alongside world-class players at Arsenal as he prepares for his debut at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Iwobi, expected to be a key player for the Super Eagles this summer, credits the experience gained alongside stars like Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for his heightened readiness.
In an exclusive interview with the June 2018 edition of FourFourTwo magazine, Iwobi expressed his optimism, stating, “The fact I’ve been training with world-class players every day has given me a bit of experience, so I’ll know what to expect in Russia. The intensity I train at with Arsenal is very high, so I’m preparing in a good way. I feel like I can do well.”
Iwobi’s journey to the World Cup was marked by a significant contribution last October, as his goal secured a 1-0 victory against Zambia, clinching Nigeria’s spot in a third consecutive World Cup finals. Reflecting on the emotional moment, the 21-year-old recalled, “I remember looking at the crowd and seeing my parents jumping – I almost cried, it was emotional. It was always my dream as a kid, so I can’t wait to be involved. I’m looking forward to the atmosphere and wearing the colors of Nigeria.”
