Asante Kotoko relocate to Accra for CAF showdown with Kwara United

By Dayo Awoniyi
Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko have confirmed that they will host Nigeria’s Kwara United at the Accra Sports Stadium for their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round clash, following the temporary closure of the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi for renovations.
The first-leg encounter is scheduled to take place between September 19 and 21, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium — currently the only CAF-approved venue in Ghana. The return fixture will be held in Nigeria between September 26 and 28, with the host venue yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, Kwara United, who currently sit atop the ValueJet Preseason Tournament table after Match Day 5, are intensifying preparations for their continental campaign. Technical Adviser Tunde Sani has called for continued support and patience from the club’s fanbase as the team fine-tunes ahead of the high-stakes clash.
“We are tasked with building a solid team for the CAF Confederation Cup and the new league season — a monumental responsibility that requires careful planning and execution,” Sani said.
The coach emphasized the importance of strategic squad development and testing new signings, particularly in key positions like goalkeeping, while avoiding avoidable preseason losses.
“We are aware of the areas that need improvement. New goalkeepers and other players will be introduced at the right time,” he added.
Sani also expressed gratitude to supporters for their continued passion, backing his side to lift the preseason trophy.
“We’re pleased with the positive results so far, and I believe Kwara United will emerge champions of the 2025 ValueJet Preseason Tournament after our final match.”
As the countdown to continental football begins, all eyes will be on Kwara United to maintain their preseason momentum and rise to the challenge against the experienced Porcupine Warriors in Accra.
