Nigeria international Ashleigh Plumptre has aimed a dig at the world football governing body, FIFA following the exclusion of teammate Chiamaka Nnadozie from the FIFA best goalkeeper nominees.
FIFA had released the nominees for the Best Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year with several top names making the list on Thursday, with Nnadozie not making the list despite her impressive performance in the year in review.
Nnadozie was one of the outstanding goalkeepers at the just concluded Women’s World Cup where she helped Nigeria finished the group stage unbeaten for the first time in history as they secured qualification to the Round of 16.
The 22-year-old kept three clean sheets during the tournament and also saved a penalty against Canada’s Christine Sinclair in their opening game. In 2022, she was voted the seventh best goalkeeper in the world by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
In her absence, England’s Mary Earps, Christiane Endler of Chile, Zecira Musovic of Sweden and Spain’s Sandra Panos Garcia-Villamil, Mackenzie Arnold of Australia, Germany’s Ann-Katrin Berger and Catalina Coll made the list.
The Paris FC goalkeeper also continued her fine form at club level after saving two penalties to eliminate Arsenal from the Women’s UEFA Champions League.
And Plumptre took to social media to quote the post from FIFA with a dancing GIF of Nnadozie, which she made after saving Alessia Russo’s penalty in the UWCL playoffs.
