Ashleigh Plumptre Warns Fans About Online Impersonation After WAFCON Win

Following Nigeria’s commanding 3-0 victory over Tunisia in their opening match of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has raised alarm over increasing cases of online impersonation using her identity.
Plumptre, who played a pivotal role in the team’s defensive performance, addressed the issue publicly, revealing that fake social media accounts have been using her name and image to deceive fans, including promises of giveaways and money.
“There have been a lot of cases where people impersonate me, taking my name and saying things. There’s a Facebook account that’s being taken down, but it is promising people money and things like that and that’s just not true,” she stated.
The Leicester-born footballer clarified that she no longer uses Facebook personally and warned that any accounts currently active in her name are fraudulent.
She urged fans to stay vigilant and avoid falling for scams conducted by impersonators, emphasizing her dedication to honesty and integrity both online and in her professional life.
Plumptre’s alert serves as a broader reminder of the growing threat of digital impersonation targeting public figures and the need for fans to verify official sources.
