Asisat Oshoala makes history in Bay FC’s win over Racing Louisville

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria international Asisat Oshoala continued to make history with NWSL’s new franchise, Bay FC as her team edged Racing Louisville 1-0 and she scored the winner on Saturday.

The former Barcelona star scored the all-important goal for the club in the 76th minute from the penalty spot at the Lynn Family Stadium, Louisville.

The goal put her into record books as the first Bay FC player to score a penalty kick.

She had also scored her team’s first-ever goal of the season in their first game.

The Super Falcons forward saw 90 minutes of action before she was related by Christiana Conti.

The Reigning African Player of the Year has scored three goals for the team so far this season leading her side to the eighth position.

The team has 18 points after 15 games in the NWSL and her compatriot Uchenna Kanu was not dressed for the match for Racing Louisville.

With the Paris 2024 Olympics taking place this month, Oshoala is expected to lead Super Falcons charge against Brazil, Spain, and Japan in Group C with her debut after a 16-year hiatus at the women’s football event of the Olympics.
