Asisat Oshoala seals two-year deal with Al Hilal after Bay FC exit

Nigeria star Asisat Oshoala has completed a move to Saudi Women’s League giants Al Hilal on a two-year contract, leaving National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side Bay FC after just over a year.

The 30-year-old forward, who joined the NWSL newcomers in February 2024 following a trophy-laden spell at FC Barcelona Femeni, underwent her medical on Monday night before finalising the switch.

Oshoala was absent from Bay FC’s 2-1 defeat to Angel City, with reports from The Athletic confirming that the two clubs had agreed on an undisclosed transfer fee.

Mixed Spell in the NWSL

During her time in the United States, Oshoala made 25 league appearances, scoring seven goals and providing one assist last season.

In total, she featured 38 times for Bay FC across all competitions, netting eight goals.

Her playing time diminished this term, with head coach Albertin Montoya highlighting her struggles in adapting to the NWSL’s high-intensity style.

“When she gets that and has the confidence in front of the goal to score goals and helps us defensively, and that’s why with Caroline Conti, she gives us something else defensively,” Montoya explained earlier this season.

New Chapter in the Gulf

The six-time CAF Women’s Player of the Year now embarks on another challenge in her illustrious career, having previously played in Europe, Asia, and the United States of America (USA).

She joins a competitive Al Hilal side, where her experience and firepower will be key as women’s football in Saudi Arabia continues to grow.

Oshoala was also part of the Super Falcons squad that claimed a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco this year, cementing her place as one of the continent’s greatest-ever players.
