Ayisat Yusuf, Onome Ebi named among “Girls Play Sports” Ambassadors

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Ayonidiran Foundation, the brain behind the “Girls Play Sports” initiative, has named four sports icons as ambassadors for the initiative.

The initiative is aimed at inspiring young girls to excel in sports, bringing together former Nigeria internationals Ayisat Yusuf Aromire; celebrated Olympic medalist, Mary Onyali; record five-time Women’s World Cup holder, Onome Ebi; and Table Tennis icon, Funke Oshonaike.

These accomplished athletes, known for their dedication and excellence, are role models for girls across Nigeria.

The grand finale of the inaugural Girls Play Sports football tournament will take place in Abuja on September 29, 2024, where the ambassadors will participate in celebrating female athletic achievements and encouraging more girls to embrace sports.

“We are honored to have these sports legends on board,” said Honourable Ayo Omidiran.

“Their success and passion for sports will inspire a new generation of female athletes, promoting empowerment through sports.”

Apart from football, the foundation also plans to expand the initiative to include sports like table tennis, basketball, and athletics in the future.

The focus is to serve as a platform for young girls to excel in sports and grow to be world stars.
