“Baba vex go house” — Davido recounts how Ronaldo snub after Man Utd loss

By Monsurah Olatunji

Afrobeats superstar David “Davido” Adeleke has recounted a memorable—but ultimately disappointing—encounter with football legend Cristiano Ronaldo, revealing how the Portuguese forward abruptly cancelled post-match dinner plans following a Manchester United defeat.

Davido, who shared the anecdote via his verified X account, said the incident occurred a few years ago when Ronaldo personally invited him to Old Trafford to watch a match.

According to the singer, Ronaldo had arranged an elaborate evening, including dinner and an after-party for Davido and his entourage.

However, the night took a turn after Manchester United lost the match.

“Football ehn fit give person BP,” Davido posted. “I remember when CR7 personally invite me come watch match for Old Trafford then couple years ago… He don book dinner ALL! Party chillin etc… Nah so dem go lose match… BABA VEX GO HOUSE.”

The singer jokingly placed the blame on Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, adding, “Since that day I still never forgive Maguire.”

While many fans found the story amusing, others were skeptical. One user commented, “If Ronaldo invited you, you won’t sit with the crowd bro. Stopeet.” Davido, unfazed, fired back humorously: “I for dey number 9 dey give am assist. Ur right.”

Another critic questioned the truthfulness of the story, writing, “CR7 invite you personally?? God punish that your lying mouth.” But fans quickly came to Davido’s defense. One supporter noted, “Davido is just too big to post chat evidence. He has nothing to prove to anybody.”

The relationship between Davido and Ronaldo dates back to 2017, when the Nigerian singer referenced the football star in his hit single Fall.

The admiration appeared mutual—Ronaldo later followed Davido on Instagram, making him the only Nigerian artist on the footballer’s following list to date.

Despite the playful backlash, Davido’s story adds another layer to his long-standing connection with the global football icon.
