Barcelona agree to let Roony Bardghji leave in search of regular football
Barcelona and Roony Bardghji have agreed that the Sweden winger should leave the club this summer in pursuit of more playing time, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Bardghji is considered unlikely to feature regularly for Barcelona’s first team, and both player and club have therefore decided to explore a move during the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
Barcelona are not, however, planning to give up control of the 19-year-old’s future. The Catalan club are expected to consider a loan deal, a transfer containing a buy-back clause or another arrangement that would allow them to retain a significant interest in his development.
Another possible option would be a deal in which Barcelona keep part of Bardghji’s future sale rights. The club continue to believe the young Sweden international has considerable potential, despite the decision to look for a temporary or permanent departure.
Bardghji, who has Syrian heritage, made a strong impression in his most recent appearance for Barcelona. He played 45 minutes against Birmingham in a friendly that ended 2-2 before Barcelona lost on penalties.
Although Barcelona were beaten in the shootout, Bardghji produced an influential display after coming on. His pace, technical ability and quality in the final third gave Hansi Flick’s side greater attacking threat during the second half.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, Bardghji’s introduction coincided with Barcelona’s most productive spell in attack. He recorded two shots on target and completed 31 of 36 passes, giving him a passing accuracy of 87%.
He also completed two dribbles and recovered possession three times during his time on the pitch.
The performance offered a reminder of the qualities that persuaded Barcelona to retain an interest in Bardghji. However, it is not expected to change the club’s plans, with the player facing strong competition for a place in his position.
That competition has increased following the arrival of Germany forward Karim Adeyemi this summer. With regular first-team opportunities difficult to secure, Bardghji is set to seek a new destination where he can play more consistently.
Barcelona’s preferred solution will allow him to gain experience and minutes while keeping open the possibility of bringing him back, benefiting from a future sale or maintaining another form of influence over his career. The precise structure of the deal has not been decided, but the club’s intention is to protect their investment in a player they still regard as a major talent.
