Bayelsa Queens potential opponent Police Ladies appoint Yussif Basigi as Head Coach for WAFU B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers

Police Ladies FC has officially appointed veteran coach Yussif Basigi as Head Coach for the upcoming 2025 WAFU B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers, scheduled to take place in Côte d’Ivoire later this month.

Basigi, the former head coach of Hasaacas Ladies, steps into the role as a result of current head coach Abu Kassim Tabasu not meeting CAF’s licensing requirements for continental competitions.

Coach Kassim, who guided Police Ladies to their historic 2024/25 Ghana Women’s Premier League title, will now serve as Assistant Coach during the qualifiers.

“I’m a License B holder, that is why Yussif Basigi is here. He is going to sit in as the head when we go there,” Abu Kassim stated during Police Ladies’ Media Day held at Awutu Winton SHS Park.

“I will support the team in every way possible as we prepare to represent Ghana on the continental stage.”

Basigi brings a proven track record to Police Ladies, having led Hasaacas Ladies to the final of the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League in 2021 which was staged in Egypt.

With his experience at the highest level of African women’s football, the team is optimistic about making a deep run in the qualifiers.

Police Ladies are set to face stiff competition from some of the region’s top clubs, including Bayelsa Queens (Nigeria), ASEC Mimosas (Côte d’Ivoire), AS GNN (Niger), USFA (Burkina Faso), ASKO (Togo), and Sam Nelly (Benin).

With the combination of Basigi’s leadership and the momentum from a landmark domestic campaign, Police Ladies FC is determined to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League main tournament and continue to make history for Ghanaian women’s football.
