Bayelsa Queens unveil Ogbonda Whyte as late coach Domo Okara replacement

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership side, Bayelsa Queens has unveiled Ogbonda Whyte as their new head coach.

He replaced late coach of the team, Domo Okara who passed away after the 2023/2024 NWFL Premiership Super Six in Yenegoa.

Whyte was unveiled during similar ceremony that saw Ladan Bosso being announced as the head coach of the men’s side, Bayelsa United on Tuesday.

He joined the Prosperity Girls from South-South rivals, Rivers Angels, having guided the Jewels of Rivers to the 2024 President Federation Cup title after narrowly missing out on the NWFL Premiership title to Edo Queens.

The triumph over Naija Ratels in the Federation Cup final ended his long wait to lay hands on first major title as a head coach of any women’s football team.

Previously on the losing side with Ibom Angels in the final of the FA Cup on two occasions, Whyte also led Confluence Queens to the final of the Super Four.

During the 2018/2019 NWFL Premiership Super Four, Whyte’s Confluence Queens lost the final match 1-0 to Rivers Angels thanks to Cecilia Nku’s goal.

His latest success with the Port Harcourt based ade is expected to run off on his new side, Bayelsa Queens.

He had also managed Osun Babes and Royal Queens.
