CAF CC: Rivers United return to winning ways against Club Africain

After a 2-1 loss to Ghana’s Dreams, Rivers United bounced back to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Tunisian side, Club Africain in the second group game of the 2023/2024 CAF Confederation Cup.

The Port Harcourt-based side had won their opening group game 3-0 against Angola side, Academica before the 2-1 loss in Ghana.

In their third group game, Nyima Nwagua scored the winning goal in the 43rd minute from Kazie Godwill’s assist at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.

The win ensured that Nigeria’s sole representative on the continent moved to the second position in Group C with six points behind leaders, Club Africain which has six points.

It now becoming a three-horse race for the automatic two spots available for the quarter-final from the group.

Dreams’ 3-2 win over Academica ensured that the Ghanaian also joined the trio of teams with six points in the group, while Academica is without a point after three games.

Rivers United will next travel to the Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi, Rades, Tunisia where they face Club Africain.

The game will be held on December 20, 2023.
