The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that Morocco will remain the host nation for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with no changes to the competition’s schedule.
The decision was ratified during the CAF Executive Committee meeting held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, under the leadership of CAF President Patrice Motsepe.
In recent weeks, speculation had suggested that Morocco could withdraw from hosting duties, sparking concerns about a possible change of venue or adjustment to the tournament dates.
However, CAF moved quickly to dismiss the rumours, reaffirming both Morocco’s hosting rights and the originally agreed timeline for the continent’s flagship women’s football competition.
Morocco previously staged the 2022 edition of WAFCON, receiving widespread praise for its organisation, quality infrastructure and record-breaking attendance figures, which marked a major milestone for women’s football in Africa.
With the confirmation now official, participating nations can proceed with certainty as they intensify preparations for the 2026 tournament, expected to further elevate the profile of women’s football across the continent.
