Edo Queens’ head coach, Moses Aduku, is confident his team will make a strong impact at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco, as they prepare to kick off their debut campaign at the prestigious continental tournament.

The Nigeria champions will face Ethiopian side CBE FC in their opening match on Sunday, and Aduku expressed his excitement about the opportunity to showcase the team’s talent on the continental stage.

“We are very happy to be here. Edo Queens are representing Nigeria and West Africa. We are here to participate, to compete, and to give our best,” Aduku said during the pre-match press conference. “Even if we are playing the local league, there is always pressure, but the key is to remind the players that it’s all about giving your best for 90 minutes.”

Aduku acknowledged the pressure that comes with such a high-profile competition but emphasized that starting with a win is crucial to maintaining a positive mindset throughout the tournament.

“Every game is important, and the match against CBE FC is the only game we have right now,” Aduku explained. “If we want to remain in the competition, we must win. Everyone has to play for one another, and we are confident that the team is ready.”

The coach also revealed that he has been preparing his players mentally for the challenges ahead. “Before the competition started, I worked on the players’ mental preparation, telling them that it’s the same football. They just need to give their best, work hard, and get the result.”

Edo Queens are the third Nigerian team to compete in the CAF Women’s Champions League, following in the footsteps of Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens. As they carry the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of Nigeria, the team is determined to make a significant impact and leave a lasting mark on the continental stage.
