CAFCL: Daniel Ogunmodede welcomes underdog tag ahead of Madeama clash
By Wale Mustapha
Head Coach of Remo Stars, Daniel Ogunmodede is satisfied with the underdog tag as his side head to the first leg, preliminary round of 2023/2024 CAF Champions League against Medeama Sports of Ghana in Accra with less pressure.
The Sky Blue Stars were paired with Medeama who have just been crowned champions of Ghana top division in the preliminary round of the CAF elite interclub competition.
And the gaffer believes his team will be heading to the fixture with less information about their opponenst who are also making their debut at the tournament but is confident in his side’s qualities to perform better.
“For sure, it should be an added advantage for us going to Ghana first and the experience we’ve had from the CAF Confederation Cup last season should also help put us in the right frame of mind,” Ogunmodede told media.
“We’ve long forgotten about the issue of fatigue as I mentioned that period was playing the Naija Super 8 just days after the league season ended.
“The players have been able to rest for some days now and we are only thinking of preparing them physically and mentally for the task ahead.
“For now, we are yet to get vital information about Medeama SC, all we have now is that they’re privately owned like us and imagine them taking all big teams in Ghana to the cleaners and are a force to be reckoned with.
“Unfortunately, we don’t have much information and we look like an underdog to them already.”
The first leg of the encounter will take place on the weekend of 18th and 19th of August, 2023.
