Bayelsa Queens and Super Falcons of Nigeria forward, Sabastine Flourish has expressed excitement after the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Champions progressed to the semi-final of the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco courtesy of a 3-0 win over Egyptian side, Wadi Degla.
The win ensured that Bayelsa Queens finished as runners-up behind group winners and defending Champions, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies of South Africa.
Sabastine expresses her excitement after reaching the semi-final of the competition but maintained that their ultimate target is reaching the final and lifting the cup.
“I want to return all the glory to God for our performance so far in the tournament, especially during the last group stage match against Wadi Degla. I thank God for the victory. I am very much happy,” Sabastine said on Brilla FM.
“I want to congratulate my team, Bayelsa Queens, and thank God for the qualification from the group stage. The next focus is on the semi-final. I am very much happy because we made it. All hope is not lost and we can still return to Nigeria with the title.”
The Prosperity Girls as Bayelsa Queens are fondly called will play host, ASFAR FC in the semi-final on November 9, 2022, for a place in the final of the competition.
Bayelsa Queens on Sunday made history by becoming the first Nigerian team to make it to the semi-final of the CAF Women’s Champions League which is in its second edition this year.
Rivers Angels represented Nigeria at the maiden edition and didn’t make it out of the group stage.
The Prosperity Girls made it to the semi-final despite a 2-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies of South Africa in its opening game.
Victories over TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo (2-0) and Wadi Degla of Egypt (3-0) propelled the Nigerian and West Africa Zone B (WAFU-B) Champions to the semi-final of 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League.
