Calvin Bassey named Fulham’s Player of the Season after fine Premier League outing

By Dayo Awoniyi

Nigerian international Calvin Bassey whose rise through European football has been nothing short of remarkable, has been crowned Fulham’s Player of the 2024/25 Season, following a stellar year at Craven Cottage.

The 25-year-old defender played a pivotal role in helping Fulham secure an impressive 11th-place finish in the Premier League.

Renowned for his composure, strength, and ability to contribute offensively, Bassey has become a standout figure in Marco Silva’s squad and a fan favorite among the Fulham faithful.

Bassey’s season was highlighted by two crucial goals—one in a Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest and another in the FA Cup against Manchester United.

Both goals stressed his ability to rise to big occasions and contribute in both boxes.

Having joined Fulham from Ajax in 2023, Bassey’s journey from the Dutch Eredivisie to becoming a defensive rock in England’s top flight has been one of consistency and growth.

His work ethic and leadership on the pitch have earned plaudits not only from supporters but also from pundits and teammates alike.

A regular for the Super Eagles, Bassey’s form at club level continues to bolster his international credentials, with Nigeria counting on him as they prepare for upcoming international competitions.

His recognition as Fulham’s top performer this season is not just a personal milestone—it’s a testament to his rise as one of Africa’s most exciting defensive talents in European football.
