Calvin Bassey: Nigeria defender hopeful of Eredivisie title with Ajax

Ajax defender Calvin Bassey believes there is still time to right their wrong and retain the Dutch league title this season.

Bassey has been one of the most criticised players in the Netherlands following his mega move from Rangers to help the Dutch champions make statement in the UEFA Champions League but has struggled to live up to expectations.

They currently sit five points behind Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven after winning just nine of their 16 games, but the Nigerian is not losing hope yet as he feels his team still have a good chance of retaining the Eredivisie title.

“We have confidence in our coach and we want to show that we are not done here. We have a lot of quality in the team and we are not worried,” Bassey said as per voetbalzone.

 “Let’s put the first half of the season behind us and focus on the future. We still have eighteen games to go.

“Every game is a final for us. We have to win them all, so I don’t feel any extra pressure.”

Ajax will on Sunday slug it out with league leaders PSV Eindhoven as Bassey will look to help his team avoid loss.
