Cameroon names 24-player squad for Super Falcons friendly

By Dayo Awoniyi

The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has released a 24-player list for the upcoming international friendly against Nigeria’s Super Falcons, as both teams intensify preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The friendly series, initially planned as a two-leg affair, has since been adjusted to a single match, now set to take place on Monday, June 2, at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta.

However, earlier schedules indicated the first leg would hold on Saturday in Ikenne, with the return fixture on June 3, before the changes were confirmed due to Cameroon’s late arrival in Nigeria.

Nigeria, under the guidance of interim head coach Justin Madugu, has been in camp for several days, focusing on tactical and physical preparations ahead of the high-profile clash.

The friendlies were designed to provide competitive match experience for both nations.

The Super Falcons, nine-time African champions, are seeking to fine-tune their squad ahead of a record-extending 10th WAFCON title challenge, while Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses aim to rebuild after failing to qualify for this year’s tournament — a first in their history.

The encounter will rekindle one of the fiercest rivalries in African women’s football.

With Nigeria dominating the head-to-head record, Cameroon will be eager to prove their mettle against one of the continent’s most successful teams.
