CHAN 2024: Kwesi Appiah backs Sudan to upset Nigeria clash

By Wale Mustapha

Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah says his team will use the extended break between fixtures to regroup and come back stronger for their next African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 match against Nigeria.

Appiah’s side were held to a 1–1 draw by Congo Brazzaville in their opening Group D fixture on Tuesday, conceding a late equaliser after leading for most of the match.

Despite dealing with injuries to key players and a less-than-ideal preparation period ahead of the tournament, the Ghanaian tactician remains optimistic about Sudan’s chances against the home-based Super Eagles.

“We have a week to prepare. That gives me a chance to adjust the team and improve things,” Appiah said in his post-match comments.

“We’ll work on our weaknesses and come back stronger against Nigeria.”

Sudan, who showed flashes of promise against Congo, will meet Nigeria next Tuesday at the Amman Stadium in what could prove a pivotal match in the race for Group D qualification.
