Chelsea sign France youth international Rachael Adedini on professional deal
Chelsea have completed the signing of 17-year-old forward Rachael Adedini, who is eligible to play for Nigeria, on a professional deal ahead of the winter summer window.
The Women’s Super League club confirmed the move through their official channels and announced the arrival of the France-born teenager on social media.
Adedini attracted attention from a number of English clubs after producing strong performances in the academies of Manchester United and Manchester City. She spent time in both Manchester youth systems but did not make a senior appearance for either club.
That lack of first-team football has not weakened her standing as one of the most promising young attackers in the English game. Chelsea were persuaded by her ability and moved quickly to secure her signature.
The club see the transfer as an opportunity to strengthen their attacking options at youth level, while also giving Adedini a route towards the senior team. Chelsea are continuing to pursue Manchester City in the race for the league title.
Adedini is regarded as a forward with a strong physical presence and a proven ability to finish chances. She will now aim to make an impression at Stamford Bridge and establish herself within Chelsea’s structure.
Although she was born in France, Adedini has a potential international choice to make in the future. She has represented France at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 level, but remains eligible to play for Nigeria at senior level through her parents.
That eligibility could eventually make her available to the Super Falcons, should she choose to represent Nigeria at international level.
Her move to Chelsea represents the next stage of a career that has so far developed within the academies of two leading English clubs. The teenager will now look to continue that progress in west London as she works towards first-team football.
Chelsea’s decision to offer Adedini a professional deal reflects the confidence the club have in her long-term potential, despite her senior experience being limited to youth football.
