Chiamaka Nnadozie optimistic about Nigeria chances against South Africa
By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie is confident about her side’s qualification chances ahead of their last hurdle for the 2024 Olympic Games against South Africa.
Nigeria will tackle Banyana Banyana in a cracker of a match in Pretoria on Tuesday night with the mindset of sustaining a record of never having lost to South Africa in that country in senior women’s football.
The Super Falcons defeated the visitors by a single goal on Friday in the first leg in Abuja, thanks to a penalty kick by Ajibade who has scored the last two goals against Banyana Banyana.
The Falcons will now have to preserve their advantage in the 2nd leg in Pretoria on Tuesday, April 9.
“The Super Falcons are used to big battles. This one will not be any different. Australia were playing in their home ground at the World Cup but we defeated them.”
The goaltender was alluding to the FIFA Women’s World Cup finals from the previous year, in which the Falcons defeated the Matildas 3-2 in front of their home crowd in Brisbane, securing their place in the tournament’s Round of 16.
Also in the Women Africa Cup of Nations final qualifying match in Abidjan more than two years ago, the Falcons defeated the hosts, Cote d’Ivoire, 1-0. Nnadozie also started in goal during these away games.
The winner of the tie will qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris.
Tuesday’s match will kick off at 7.30 pm South African time (6.30 pm Nigeria time).
