Chijioke Mbaoma, Sikiru Alimi take NPFL top scorer prize chase till NPFL final day

By Wale Mustapha
Remo Stars’ Sikiru Alimi is still on the tail of Chijioke Mbaoma of Enyimba FC in the race to win the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL top scorer award.
Mbaoma is leading the scorers’ log with 16bgoals with Alimi behind him on 15 goals.
Both players will have chance to increase the tally as they both have home games to wrap up their season.
While Enyimba will hosting Plateau United in Aba with Mbaoma expected to lead the attack for the People’s Elephants, Remo Stars are most likely to trust Alimi as their front man when they take on Katsina United in Ikenne.
Eventual winner of the chart will be rewarded with Eunisell’s Golden Boot prize as each goal will attract a sum of 200,000 each.
Plateau United’s Albert Hilary and Jonathan Alukwu of Sporting Lagos also have an outside chance of claiming the top scorer honour with 12 goals each.
Godwin Obaje of Rangers and Niger Tonardoes’ Bashir Usman have registered 11 goals each.
Enyimba’s Chukwuemeka Obioma won the last season’s award with 12 goals when the league was played in an abridged format.
