Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze featured as AC Milan survived a late Atalanta fightback to secure a 3-2 Serie A victory at San Siro on Sunday.

The match was Chukwueze’s sixth appearance for Milan this campaign. The Nigeria international, who has provided two assists this season, started on the wing before being replaced by Hutchinson in the 53rd minute.

Milan made the stronger start and used 56% possession to keep Atalanta under pressure. Their control was rewarded in the 24th minute when Goncalo Ramos converted a penalty with composure to put the hosts ahead.

The Rossoneri continued to threaten as the first half progressed and extended their lead shortly before the interval. Diego Moreira created the opportunity for Adrien Rabiot, who finished well in the 43rd minute to give Milan a 2-0 advantage at half-time.

Atalanta struggled to contain the hosts after the break, and Milan were presented with a chance to move further ahead when they were awarded another penalty. Ramos, however, was unable to convert this time, with his effort saved.

That miss did not prove costly immediately. Four minutes later, Mario Gila scored from open play to put Milan 3-0 up in the 57th minute and leave Atalanta facing a heavy defeat.

The visitors responded with renewed urgency and began to shift the momentum. Gianluca Gaetano reduced the deficit in the 66th minute, giving Atalanta hope of completing a remarkable recovery.

La Dea continued to commit players forward and were rewarded again nine minutes from time. Nikola Krstovic found the net in the 81st minute to make the score 3-2 and set up a tense finish at San Siro.

Milan were forced to withstand sustained pressure during the final 10 minutes, but Amorim’s side closed down the available spaces and resisted Atalanta’s late push.

The home team held on to claim an important victory, despite surrendering most of its three-goal advantage in the closing stages.
