Claude Puel Optimistic About Ndidi’s World Cup Prospects Despite Injury Setback

Leicester City manager Claude Puel remains optimistic about midfielder Wilfred Ndidi’s chances of recovering in time for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, following a hamstring injury sustained during Saturday’s 5-0 defeat to Crystal Palace. Puel expressed his concern over Ndidi’s injury but hopes the setback won’t jeopardize the player’s participation in the global tournament.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Puel remarked, “I hope it is not a serious injury for Ndidi, and I hope he can play in the World Cup. All the scenarios today were bad for us. We will see. It is a hamstring injury. I hope it is not serious, of course, because it is an important moment.”

Ndidi, a pivotal figure in Leicester City’s midfield, was substituted in the 51st minute of the match, with Aleksandr Dragovic taking his place. The Nigerian international has featured prominently in 33 Premier League games this season, contributing four assists.

The midfielder’s influence extends to the international stage, where he played a crucial role in Nigeria’s qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The Super Eagles, led by coach Gernot Rohr, are hoping for Ndidi’s swift recovery, as they prepare to face formidable opponents in the tournament, including African heavyweights Cameroon and Algeria.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Ndidi’s injury, Puel and the Nigerian national team remain hopeful that the talented midfielder will regain fitness in time to make a significant impact on the world stage
