Countdown to Morocco 2025: 100 Days to the Africa Cup of Nations

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially launched the countdown to the continent’s biggest football showpiece, announcing on Friday that only 100 days remain until the start of the 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

For the first time since 1988, the Kingdom will welcome Africa’s best, hosting 24 national teams and millions of supporters from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026. The action will unfold across six host cities — Rabat, Casablanca, Fes, Tangier, Marrakech, and Agadir — with nine stadiums staging the matches.

The last edition in Côte d’Ivoire (2023) raised the bar, with over 1.5 billion television viewers and 2.4 billion digital streams, making it the most-watched AFCON in history. Organisers and fans expect Morocco 2025 to surpass those figures, showcasing AFCON’s growing global footprint.

Defending champions Côte d’Ivoire will be out to retain their crown in what will be the 35th edition of the tournament, first played in 1957.

To mark the 100-day milestone, CAF unveiled a special commemorative poster, igniting excitement as the countdown begins.

Morocco’s recent hosting success — including the 2024 Women’s AFCON and the 2025 U-17 AFCON — has underlined its organisational capacity and passion for the game. The nation is also preparing to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, reinforcing its status as an emerging global football hub.

With world-class facilities, vibrant culture, and renowned hospitality, Morocco 2025 promises more than a competition. It will be a celebration of African unity, pride, and footballing excellence on one of the sport’s grandest stages.
