Coventry City complete £9m signing of Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest

Coventry City have completed the signing of Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest in a deal worth around £9m, with the 29-year-old joining the Sky Blues ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Awoniyi becomes one of Coventry’s main summer additions as the club prepare to resume life in the top flight after a 25-year absence. The forward arrives with Premier League experience and will be expected to contribute goals as the promoted side seek to establish themselves at the highest level of English football.

The Nigeria international spent four seasons at Nottingham Forest after moving to the club, making 103 appearances in all competitions and scoring 23 goals. His time at the City Ground included a number of important contributions in front of goal, but he was restricted to limited starts last season.

That reduced involvement has led to Awoniyi leaving Forest, and his move to Coventry gives him the opportunity to rebuild his form under manager Frank Lampard. The forward will now begin the next stage of his career with a club preparing for its first Premier League campaign in 25 years.

Coventry secured promotion to the Premier League and have moved quickly to strengthen their squad for the challenge ahead. Awoniyi’s arrival is regarded as a significant addition, with his experience and previous record in English football expected to add weight to the Sky Blues’ attacking options.

The club will hope he can rediscover his best form and provide the goals needed to support their bid to remain in the division. His ability to lead the attack will be central to Coventry’s plans as they prepare to face the demands of top-flight football once again.

Awoniyi spoke positively about the challenge awaiting him after completing the transfer. He also praised Coventry’s promotion-winning campaign, underlining his enthusiasm for joining a team that has earned its place back in the Premier League.

For Forest, the transfer brings an end to Awoniyi’s four-season stay at the City Ground. He departs having scored 23 goals across his 103 appearances for the club, while Coventry now hope the striker can make a decisive impact as they return to the top flight.

The move is one of the clearest indications of Coventry’s intent ahead of their Premier League comeback. With Awoniyi added to their squad, the Sky Blues will look to turn the momentum of promotion into a successful campaign and secure their position among the country’s leading clubs.
