Cristiano Ronaldo set to miss more Al Nassr training after extended World Cup break

Cristiano Ronaldo will continue his extended summer holiday and remain absent from Al Nassr training as the Saudi club prepares for the 2026-27 season, almost a month after Portugal’s elimination from the 2026 World Cup.

The Al Nassr captain did not join the club’s overseas training camp in Lisbon, which began on 19 July, and was still away from the squad when the camp ended on Tuesday. Ronaldo was given time off following his involvement with Portugal at the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

According to Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiyah, Al Nassr’s squad will return to Riyadh on a private aircraft on Wednesday after spending more than two weeks in the Portuguese capital.

The players will be given only 24 hours off once they arrive in Saudi Arabia before returning to training on Friday at Al Nassr’s Dar Al Nassr stadium.

Ronaldo, however, will not be part of that session. The 41-year-old is expected to continue his holiday, which began after Portugal’s World Cup campaign ended.

Portugal were beaten 1-0 by Spain in the last 16 on 6 July, bringing Ronaldo’s participation in the tournament to a close. The result marked the start of a break that has now lasted close to a month.

His continued absence comes just 10 days before Al Nassr begin their new campaign. The club are due to host Al Fateh on 15 August in the opening round of the Roshn Saudi League.

Al Nassr, led by Ronaldo, will be aiming to retain the Saudi league title they won last season. That triumph ended a seven-year wait for the club, and the team will now also pursue a first AFC Champions League Elite title.

Ronaldo’s return date has not been stated, but his absence from the club’s preparations means Al Nassr will have to continue their final preparations without their captain before the opening fixture.

The Portuguese forward joined Al Nassr as the leading figure in the club’s pursuit of domestic and continental success. His extended break follows a demanding international summer and leaves the club working towards the start of the season while waiting for one of its most important players to rejoin the squad.

The immediate priority for Al Nassr is to complete the transition from the Lisbon camp to regular training in Riyadh. The squad will resume work on Friday, while Ronaldo remains on leave before the new season gets under way.
