Cyriel Dessers joins UEFA Conference League scoring elite after Panathinaikos double
Cyriel Dessers moved level with Mikael Ishak as the joint-top scorer in UEFA Conference League history after scoring twice in Panathinaikos’ 5-1 victory over Kairat Almaty.
The Super Eagles striker now has 13 goals in the competition, matching Ishak’s record, after an influential display on matchday two of the league phase.
Dessers put Panathinaikos ahead in the 24th minute from the penalty spot. He had won the spot-kick himself before confidently converting to give his side the lead.
He struck again shortly after half-time, adding Panathinaikos’ second goal in the 47th minute with a composed left-footed finish.
The forward was denied the chance to complete a hat-trick when he was substituted in the 56th minute, but his two goals were enough to take him level with Ishak at the top of the UEFA Conference League’s all-time scoring list.
