Cyril Dessers hopes personal contribution will salvage Cremonese from relegation

By Saheed Afolabi
Nigeria forward, Cyril Dessers hopes that his contribution of goals and assists will be enough for Cremonese to avoid the drop from the Italian Serie A this season.
Dessers scored inside the opening four minutes to hand Cremonese a 1-0 victory over Empoli on Friday and the triumph moved the Giovanni Zini Stadium based outfit to 19 on the log with seven points away from safety.
The Super Eagles star refused to take credit for the win as he believes seeing the club avoid relegation is the ultimate.
“It was wonderful to win here, under our curve. It was a very difficult match, but we did a great job and I’m very happy,” Dessers told the club website.
“I must congratulate our defenders who did a great job. Scorer or not, it’s not the most important. I have one goal for the team and that is salvation. I hope to help with goals, assists, and work.”
Cremonese are ranked 19th on the Serie A table with 19 points from 30 matches. As the race to survive relegation heats up, Le Tigri (The Tigers) have eight matches left to play in order to change their fortunes.
Cremonese will travel to face 12th placed Udinese on the 23rd of April in their next Serie A match.
