Daniel Ogunmodede reveals Remo Stars’ resolve on NPFL title pursuit

By Wale Mustapha

Head Coach of Remo Stars, Daniel Ogunmodede, has vowed that his team will not relent in their pursuit of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title this season.

Ogunmodede made this declaration following a narrow 3-2 defeat to Kwara United in their Matchday 33 encounter in Ilorin on Sunday.

The Sky Blues Stars nearly salvaged a point from the match but their late efforts fell short as Kwara United managed to secure the win.

A disappointed Ogunmodede acknowledged that his team reacted too late in the game but emphasized that they will build on the positives to improve in the upcoming fixtures, maintaining their title ambitions until the season’s end.

“We will not give up. We will keep fighting to the end. We knew it wouldn’t be easy, but we’ll learn from our mistakes and come back stronger,” Ogunmodede asserted.

“The only disappointment is that we were unable to get the maximum three points. We planned for the win, but unfortunately, we couldn’t get our desired results.”

He continued, “But nevertheless, it was a good fight. Kwara United took advantage of their early goal; you know this is a team who had the luck of playing about two matches during the holidays, which tells of their match fitness, and the early goal gave them a lot of confidence.

“We were struggling, they took advantage again and scored their second goal before the whistle sounded for the first half.”

Ogunmodede stressed the team’s determination in the second half, despite scoring an own goal.

“We came in the second half and fought hard; we were unlucky and scored an own goal,” he added.

“We wanted to be champions, and we know what it means to be champions—as champions, you don’t give up. So we fought. We got two consolidating goals, but it wasn’t enough.”

Remo Stars will next face Kano Pillars in Ikenne on Sunday, where they aim to bounce back and continue their quest for the NPFL title.
