Daniel Ogunmodede unhappy over NPFL season despite Remo Stars second place finish

Remo Stars head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, has expressed dissatisfaction with the club’s performances at the end of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) 2023/2024 season.
The Sky Blue Stars secured a second-place finish, which will see them compete in the CAF Champions League for the second consecutive year after their first-round exit last season.
Despite this achievement, Ogunmodede is not content, citing his personal goal of clinching the league title after finishing second last year.
“For my personal target, I term it as a failure because the target from the beginning of the season was clear—it was to be one step ahead of what we were last season,” Ogunmodede told Remo Stars media.
“We were second last season, and we wanted to be first this season, but unfortunately, we slipped and finished second.”
Reflecting on the differences between the seasons, he noted, “Last season (2022/23) was an abridged league, and this (2023/24) was a marathon, so it’s different lessons from different formats. We just need to accept our fate. I accept responsibility as the coach, and that is why I congratulated the players.”
Ogunmodede remains committed to improvement, stating, “We want to be better, always, that’s what we want to do.”
Remo Stars concluded the NPFL 2023/2024 season with 65 points from 38 games, falling short of Ogunmodede’s ambitions but still earning a spot in the prestigious continental competition.
