Early Al Ahly v Zamalek clash set for October in Egyptian Premier League draw
The first Al Ahly v Zamalek derby of the 2026-27 Egyptian Premier League season will be played in the sixth round on 11 October, after an artificial intelligence-generated draw produced contrasting opening schedules for the defending champions and their main rivals.
Zamalek will begin their title defence against Al Ittihad Alexandria on 21 August. They will then face National Bank of Egypt in the second round on 26 August, before a fixture involving Suez-based Petrojet on 31 August.
The champions’ fourth match is scheduled for 8 September, when they will play Abu Qir Fertilizers. Their fifth-round game will be against Ghazl El Mahalla on 16 September.
The draw has brought forward one of the most anticipated fixtures in Egyptian football, with Zamalek due to meet Al Ahly in the sixth round on 11 October. The encounter will provide an early test for both clubs and is the headline fixture to emerge from the league schedule.
Zamalek will also face Pyramids FC later in the campaign. That match has been placed in round 13 and will take place on 28 December.
The 2026-27 Premier League draw has therefore created an uneven start for the three leading clubs: defending champions Zamalek, Cairo rivals Al Ahly and Pyramids FC. While Zamalek’s first five matches include meetings with Al Ittihad Alexandria, National Bank of Egypt, Petrojet, Abu Qir Fertilizers and Ghazl El Mahalla, their senior rivalry with Al Ahly arrives relatively early in the season.
The draw was conducted using artificial intelligence, with the fixture list setting out the key dates for the opening stages of the Egyptian top flight.
For Zamalek, the campaign will start on 21 August and quickly move through a sequence of fixtures before the first derby of the season. The meeting with Al Ahly on 11 October will come in round six, while the clash with Pyramids FC will follow in the 13th round on 28 December.
The schedule confirms that Zamalek’s title defence will feature an early meeting with Al Ahly, followed by a later contest against Pyramids FC. However, the information released for the draw does not provide the opening fixtures for Al Ahly or Pyramids FC beyond confirming their place among the clubs whose schedules were shaped by the draw.
