Edo Queens and Ampem Darkoa to resume WAFU-B final with extra time on Saturday
Edo Queens and Ampem Darkoa will return to Burkina Faso on Saturday to complete their disputed WAFU-B final, which remains unresolved more than a month after the original match.
The sides drew 2-2 after 90 minutes on 5 September, before Edo Queens won 4-1 on penalties. However, the CAF Organising Committee for Women’s Football later cancelled the shoot-out outcome, ruling that the competition regulations required extra time to be played first.
Edo Queens appealed against that decision, but the CAF Appeal Board rejected their challenge on 16 October. The Board confirmed that the final must restart at the beginning of extra time, with the score still level at 2-2.
The teams will play two 15-minute periods of extra time. If there is still no winner, the match will be decided by another penalty shoot-out. CAF has also directed that a different set of match officials must oversee the continuation.
The winning team will be crowned WAFU-B champions and take the zone’s qualification place for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
Edo Queens had initially celebrated their September victory, believing they had secured the title after prevailing in the shoot-out. Ampem Darkoa subsequently submitted a formal protest, which led to the penalty result being annulled.
That decision left the regional qualification place undecided and prolonged a dispute that has lasted more than a month. The conclusion will now come from extra time rather than the penalty shoot-out that originally appeared to settle the final.
Both teams must therefore prepare for a fresh contest lasting up to 30 additional minutes, with penalties to follow if the scores remain level. The outcome will finally determine which club wins the WAFU-B title and represents the zone in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
