By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Two players from Edo Queens have been nominated for the 2024 CAF Women’s Interclub Player of the Year.

The duo of Emem Essien and goalkeeper, Omini Oyono secured nominations ahead of the 2024 CAF Awards.

Essien, who was the highest goal scorer at the West Africa Zone B (WAFU-B) Champions League qualifiers as Moses Aduku’s side won the title, has been the revelation of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League.

She has scored three goals against Commerical Bank of Ethiopia FC, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies (South Africa), and TP Mazembe (Democratic Republic of Congo) as the Benin City-based side reached the semi-finals of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League.

Oyono, on the other hand, also coordinated her defense with saves, leading her team to top Group Group B and reach the semi-finals.

She kept two clean sheets at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League.

The two players will battle it out with eight other players for the award.

They include Sandrine Niyonkuru (FC Masar), Merveille Nanguji (TP Mazembe), Lacho Flora Marta (TP Mazembe), Doha El Madani (AS FAR FC), Khadija Er-Ermichi (AS FAR FC), Sanaa Mssoudy (AS FAR FC), Amogelang Motau (University of Western Cape), and Shadia Nankya (FC Masar).
