By Saheed Afolabi
Rivers Angels gaffer, Edwin Okon is targeting the maximum points at stake when they face off with Naija Ratels at the Old Parade Ground, Area 10, Abuja on Wednesday.
Despite the inconsistent form this season, the Jewel of Rivers are still in contention for a place in the Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership Super Six playoffs. At it stands, Ratels are third with 14 points – one ahead of Rivers in fourth position with three matches left to play this season.
Rivers Angels won the first leg 1-0 against Bankole Olowookere’s side and the former Super Falcons coach is eager to inspire his side to a double in quest to keep thier Supe Six bid alive.
“Football is not like mathematics, anything can happen and you don’t write off a team because of one bad season. Rivers Angels has achieved a lot in women’s football and shouldn’t be written off,” Okon told the club’s media.
“The Super 6 is still open and that is the reason why we are here today. Anything can happen in the game and I’m solely here for three points. The players are equally aware of this.
“They must pick the maximum result required for the team. We are not underrating Naija Ratels in any way, I know the players would want to make a name for themselves so we won’t be taking them for granted.”
Rivers Angels will clash with Naija Ratels at the Old Parade ground, Abuja on Wednesday, April 5.
