Former Super Eagles and Celtic defender, Efe Ambrose has signed a short-term deal with Morton.
The 33-year-old Nigerian international has been without a club since being released by St Johnstone in the summer.
Ambrose, who was signed for the Hoops by Neil Lennon from Israeli outfit FC Ashdod in August 2012, spent the second half of last season on loan at Dunfermline.
The unpredictable back-four operator, who was allowed to leave Parkhead after Brendan Rodgers’ first campaign in 2016/17, had been training with Hamilton Accies in recent months, but has now completed his switch to their Championship rivals.
A club statement read: “Greenock Morton are delighted to announce the signing on Efe Ambrose on a deal until the end of the season.
“Efe joins the team as a highly experienced defender playing almost 200 games in the Scottish Premiership where he won the league with Celtic on four occasions and making just under 50 appearances for his national team where he was part of the Nigeria side that lifted the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013.”
Ambrose reunited with Lennon at Hibs for 18 months before having a six-month stint at Derby County.
The versatile star also had a spell at Livingston, but was allowed to move on at the end of the 2020-21 term.
Greenock Morton Football Club who won the Scottish Cup in 1922 is a Scottish professional football club, which plays in the Scottish Championship.
The club was founded as Morton Football Club in 1874, making it one of the oldest senior Scottish clubs. Morton was renamed Greenock Morton in 1994 to celebrate the links with its home town of Greenock.
