Nigerian duo Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho chose the best night to score their first goals of the season as they helped Leicester City recorded 2-0 win at Burton in the EFL Cup first round on Wednesday.
Its the first time the Super Eagles’ players will be on the score sheet for the Foxes and the match played at the Enzo Maresca’s second consecutive win following their comeback victory over Huddersfield at the weekend.
Iheanacho opened his account for the season with a cheeky back heel flick from Mark Albrighton’s cross in the opening seventh minute of the match.
The Foxes held on to the lead through the first half despite the hosts making some incursions to their goal area.
With just a minute to see the first half, Wilfred Ndidi slotted home with a first time finish, taking Iheanacho’s pass in his stride after the forward made a clever run into Burton’s goal area.
Iheanacho could have increase the lead for Enzo Maresca side in the second half as he latched onto Albrighton’s through ball, forcing Blackman to make a low, diving save to palmed it away.
With few minutes to end the match, Ricardo fed Iheanacho through the middle and initially the Super Eagles winger was unable to work a shot on his left but soon shift the ball onto his right, seeing his attempt blocked.
Victory for Leicester City saw them rewarded with Tranmere Rovers away in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
