Eguavoen backs Super Eagles to excel at 2025 Afcon, cautions against group dangers

Austin Eguavoen, the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has expressed confidence in the Super Eagles’ prospects at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, while warning of the potential challenges within their group.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with totorinews.com in Abuja, Eguavoen acknowledged that, on paper, the Super Eagles are well-positioned in Group C. However, he stressed that success will depend on the team’s preparation and execution on the field.

“On paper, the Super Eagles look very good in Group C. The AFCON draw is okay for Nigeria, but the team must prove it on the field,” Eguavoen said. “We have to prepare well and perform well if we want to achieve success.”

Eguavoen also cautioned against underestimating any team in modern football, emphasizing that no opponent should be taken lightly.

“Nothing is easy, especially in football. If you don’t prepare thoroughly, you risk a shocking defeat. If you want to be champions, you need to be ready to face any team and win. There are no more ‘minnows’ in football,” he warned.

Despite the challenges, Eguavoen expressed satisfaction with the draw and the overall setup of the Super Eagles.

“Personally, I am happy with the AFCON draw. The players and the Federation are also happy. Now, it’s up to us to plan well, prepare thoroughly, and take it game by game,” he concluded.
