Ladan Bosso, Head Coach of Nigeria’s U20 national team is confident that his team has all it takes to replicate Argentina’s performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and win the U20 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The Flying Eagles lost their opening match at the U20 AFCON competition by a 1-0 to Senegal before they rallied to victories against hosts Egypt and Mozambique in their remaining group stage games to advance.
A quarterfinal triumph over Uganda sealed a place in the semi final as well as a ticket for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup and Bosso reveals his team is now focus on winning a record eighth title like the world champions Argentina.
“After losing to Senegal in the first match. I said that I believe that my boys can bounce back and probably win the trophy,” Bosso told Pulse Sports.
“I gave a reference point with the World Cup in Qatar. Argentina won the World Cup, but they lost their first match against Saudi Arabia.
“Then they sat down and worked on their mistakes and at the end of the day, they won the trophy. That is what I’m foreseeing with the Nigerian team.”
The Flying Eagles will be taking on The Gambia, who thrashed South Sudan 5-0 – in the semifinal clash on Monday.
