Nigeria skipper Tosin Adegbite has stated that he is confident that the U20 men’s national team will have no problems scaling the group stage hurdle at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria face hosts Egypt, Senegal and Mozambique in the group stage of the U20 Afcon and Adegbite is confident that Nigeria can qualify from the group stage and ultimately win the title despite being drawn into a tricky group.
“We are capable and can do it as Champions of WAFU-B. We did not fear any team but respect them. We know what we are going to face in Egypt,” Adegbite told Brila FM.
“By the grace of God, we are going to conquer. Let’s just qualify from that group. Possibly top the group and go for the title. I am confident in my teammates that we can do it.”
For the first time, 12 teams will participate in the U-20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the top two teams from the three groups will qualify for the quarter-final alongside the two best third-placed teams.
The group basement teams as well as a third-placed team will be eliminated at the end of the group stage and the top four teams at the end of the tournament will qualify for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.
