Egypt national team media co-ordinator Mohamed Murad resigns amid Hossam Hassan uncertainty
Egypt national team media co-ordinator Mohamed Murad has resigned after five years with the Pharaohs, as uncertainty continues over head coach Hossam Hassan’s future.
Murad’s time with the national team began under Portuguese manager Carlos Queiroz and continued through the current coaching team led by Hossam Hassan and his brother Ibrahim Hassan.
His decision comes amid growing controversy surrounding Hossam Hassan, following a series of personal disputes that have recently attracted significant media attention between the manager and his former wife, Dan Adam.
Reports have also suggested the Egyptian Football Association has begun considering alternative options in case it decides to change the coaching staff. However, no official decision has been made over whether Hossam Hassan will remain in charge or leave his position.
Murad announced his resignation in a statement posted on his official Facebook page. He said he had reached the decision after lengthy consideration and stressed that he had worked to present the national team’s media operations professionally, often without additional support during major assignments.
“After much thought, I decided to leave my position as media co-ordinator of the Egypt national football team after five years, from the time of Queiroz through to the best, most important and most successful period with coach Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan,” Murad said.
“I hope the officials give them support in the coming period if they want to build a strong national team.”
Murad said he had worked alone throughout his time with Egypt, including at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and at the World Cup, which he described as the most important and successful tournament of his career, the team’s career and for the Egyptian people.
“I tried and worked as hard as I could to present the team’s media work in an outstanding way,” he added. “I worked alone throughout these years, including at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and, most importantly, at the World Cup.
“We received praise from FIFA for the tournament’s media work, and a specific email was sent about that, despite me working alone, while all the other teams had at least four media co-ordinators.”
Murad thanked several officials who had helped him secure and retain the role, including Ahmed Diab, Gamal Allam, Mohamed Yehia Lotfy, Walid El Attar, Ola El Shafie and Abdel Fattah Abdel Moneim.
“I wish Egypt and the twins every success and support,” he said. “I thank the many people who played a part in my being in this position, including the respected members of the board.”
He ended his statement with a pointed message to an unnamed official within the Egyptian Football Association: “One final thing to say to the marginalised person in the Football Association: I stayed despite your wishes and left because I chose to.”
Egypt are listed to face Malawi in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying on 13 November 2026.
