Swedish side, Malmö FF has completed the signing of Nigeria midfielder, Emmanuel Ekong.

The attacking midfielder joins the Swedish side on transfer from Italian Serie A club Empoli FC.

He midfielder was born in Italy but received his football upbringing in IF Brommapojkarna. As a 16-year-old, Emmanuel moved back to Italy to become a youth professional in Empoli.

Four years later came the debut in Serie A and in October last year he also got to represent the Swedish U21 national team for the first time.

During the start of the autumn season, there have been 15 starts in Serie A and two starts in the Coppa Italia, where he was the scorer in both cup matches.

The season before that, the technically gifted 22-year-old spent on loan at NK Istra where he got regular playing time in the Croatian top league.

Ekong has signed a five-year deal and will wear number 11. He joins the team immediately.

“It feels great to finally be there, I’ve been longing for this,” Ekong said.

“I feel that this is absolutely the right step for me considering the ambitions of Malmö FF and I want to be part of a journey with a team that always plays to win.

“It will be fun and exciting to play Swedish football again. I think the team’s way of playing will suit me well, I am fast, technical and like to challenge. I hope to score a lot of points and help the team.

“I know that I will come to a good club, everyone I have spoken to has told me that. I look forward to winning titles and playing in front of nice and passionate supporters in Malmö.” He concluded.
