EPL: Alex Iwobi equals Shola Ameobi’s record for most appearances by a Nigerian

By Wale Mustapha

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has reached a major career milestone by equaling the record for the most Premier League appearances by a Nigerian player.

Iwobi made his 298th appearance in the English top flight during Fulham’s 3-1 defeat to Bournemouth on Friday, drawing level with former Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi.

The 28-year-old is now poised to become the all-time Nigerian appearance leader in the Premier League, needing just one more game to set a new record.

Iwobi began his Premier League career with Arsenal before moving to Everton and later Fulham. His consistency and longevity have earned him a place among the elite Nigerian players to grace the English league.

Other notable Nigerians on the all-time Premier League appearances list include Nwankwo Kanu (273), Yakubu Aiyegbeni (252), and John Mikel Obi (249).
