Erhun Obanor joins Al-Gharraf on free transfer from Union Military
Nigeria centre-back Erhun Obanor has joined Iraqi club Al-Gharraf on a free transfer from Libyan Premier League side Union Military.
The 30-year-old completed the move on 13 August 2026, bringing his brief spell with Union Military to an end after joining the Libyan club from a period without a club in October 2025. Obanor now moves into the Iraq Stars League, with Al-Gharraf becoming the latest destination in a career that has taken him across several leagues.
Obanor is a left-footed central defender who was born in Benin City and stands 1.92m tall. His experience includes 60 appearances in the Saudi First Division League, where he scored once and registered two assists.
He has also played in Albania, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece and Libya. His career record includes 53 appearances in Albania’s Kategoria Superiore and 24 in Croatia’s SuperSport HNL. He made eight appearances in the Albanian Cup and featured in European qualifying matches, including the Europa League and Uefa Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.
Before moving to Union Military, Obanor spent the first half of 2025-26 without a club after leaving Saudi Arabian side Al-Zulfi. He joined Al-Zulfi from Al-Ain in July 2024, having previously played for Albanian club KF Vora.
The defender began his senior career in Nigeria, where he represented BJ Foundation Academy, Bendel Insurance, Abia Warriors and COD United. He also had an early spell with MFM FC before moving to Tunisia to join Club Africain in January 2016.
Obanor later moved to Germany, joining Greuther Furth in July 2016 after leaving BJ Foundation Academy. He subsequently played for Greuther Furth II, Croatian side NK Rudes and several clubs in Albania before returning to the Gulf region.
His career has included loan moves, including spells with MFM FC and Cypriot club PAEEK Kyrenia, while later transfers to clubs including KF Laci, Proodeftiki and KF Vora were completed without transfer fees.
Obanor’s move to Al-Gharraf was completed as a free transfer on 13 August 2026.
