Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has raised the possibility of convincing Arsenal prodigy Ethan Nwaneri to represent Nigeria at the international level.
Nwaneri, born in England to a Nigerian father and an English mother, has already represented England at youth level but remains eligible to play for Nigeria.
Chelle revealed that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) would need to take the lead in reaching out to the talented winger before any discussions could take place.
Chelle acknowledged the interest of new England head coach Thomas Tuchel, who is reportedly eager to cap Nwaneri at the senior international level.
However, Chelle remains optimistic about Nigeria’s chances, especially with the right approach.
“During my trip to England, I expressed my desire for Nwaneri to play for Nigeria,” Chelle told SCORENigeria.
“I want the NFF to make the first contact with him, and then I will speak with him personally.
“It will be challenging because England will also want to call him up, but I believe I can convince him by discussing our game project and where he fits in, once the NFF has made the initial contact.”
Nwaneri has impressed this season with Arsenal, registering eight goals and two assists, further enhancing his reputation as one of the brightest young talents in English football.
